I software di acquisizione e analisi che si utilizzano sono:

• il software di gestione del frame grabber (driver + programma di conversione analogico-digitale) che controlla tutta la catena a monte costituita da telecamera e time inserter fornendo l’input per la registrazione digitale del segnale video. Notare che il “time inserter” ha la funzione di captare il segnale orario radio controllato o il segnale orario trasmesso dalla catena di satelliti GPS e di visualizzarlo, insieme eventualmente alle proprie coordinate, sul monitor e di registrare costantemente il dato permettendo l’analisi dei frame video
• il software di gestione della camera CCD con i suoi driver (scarcabili dal sito del produttore)
• il software di analisi dei risultati: viene di norma utilizzato il programma “TANGRA” (scarica il programma).

Non entreremo nel merito delle funzionalità dei singoli software per le quali si rimanda ai rispettivi manuali e tutorial presenti eventualmente nella rete internet o sui siti dei produttori.

In pratica il filmato ottenuto (salvato con il software di gestione del frame grabber) viene analizzato da TANGRA che, scelte alcune stelle di confronto (per le quali non si deve verificare alcuna variazione di luminosità), verifica la curva di luminosità della stella occultata permettendo, se l’occultazione è effettivamente avvenuta, di determinare il tempo di inizio e di fine occultazione con la massima precisione. Una registrazione del video dovrebbe sempre essere salvata e inoltrata allo IOTA-ES anche in caso di osservazione negativa

The acquisition and analysis software used are:

• the frame grabber management software (driver + analog-digital conversion program) which controls the entire upstream chain made up of the camera and time inserter, providing the input for the digital recording of the video signal. Note that the “time inserter” has the function of picking up the radio-controlled time signal or the time signal transmitted by the GPS satellite chain and displaying it, possibly together with its own coordinates, on the monitor and constantly recording the data, allowing the analysis of video frames
• the CCD camera management software with its drivers (downloadable from the manufacturer’s website
• the results analysis software: the program is normally used “TANGRA” (download here) .

We will not go into the merits of the functions of the individual software for which we refer to the respective manuals and tutorials possibly present on the internet or on the manufacturers’ sites.

In brief anyhow, the movie obtained (saved by the frame grabber management software) is analyzed by TANGRA which, having chosen some comparison stars (for which no variation in brightness should occur), checks the brightness curve of the occulted star, allowing, if the occultation has actually occurred, to determine the start and end times of occultation with maximum precision. A record of the movie should always be saved ad forwarded to the IOTA-ES even in case of negative observation
